Preparing For A First Camping Trip

Camping in the great outdoors is something that everyone will, and probably should experience at least once in their life. For some it is an experience they will never wish to have ever again, and for others it becomes something that they love to do.

Packing up a family size tent and making sure that all of the necessary parts to go with it, should be the first thoughts for preparing to go camping. Many who go camping for the first time forget something important which could end up making their experience less enjoyable. A lot of people also dread the task of putting a tent up but with a practice run at home and the instructions at hand for when you arrive, you should be fine. If in doubt upon your arrival ask around. Others at the campsite will either go often or be new just the same as you and would probably appreciate hearing somebody struggling as they are too! It can be a fun and sociable thing, especially for children if you pick a good place to stay.

It is always best to stay close to home for your first camping adventure, just in case you decide it is not for you. If it was so bad that you have the urge to pack up and go home, at least you will only be an hour or so drive away. If you do enjoy the holiday and want to do it again you will have options to look for further afield, and maybe even stretch to travelling to somewhere in France.

As well as all of the tent bits, cooking equipment, sleeping bags etc. you need to consider clothing. The weather in the UK is unpredictable so always prepare for rain. Even in the middle of summer you just know at some point the clouds will draw in and the Heavens will open! Pack warm thick fleeces and put one over the top of a t-shirt. If it is cold you will be nice and warm and if you get too warm from walking then you can simply take off the fleece to cool down. Make sure to have plenty of extra socks, if you decide to walk out of the tent in a pair they will get muddy so always have more than you need. Last but not least pack a positive attitude. If you go thinking you will enjoy it, you are more likely to have a better time, a bit of mud never hurt anyone!
