MARILYN HAGERTY: Winter wedding has tinges of red and green farm machinery

He farms with red Case I-H machinery. Her dad uses only green John Deere.

But Fallon Hoverson and Taylor Petsinger, who will marry this evening have set the red and green question aside. Their wedding will be done in tones of silver and ivory. Sort of a winter wonderland theme.

Four nieces who are flower girls and three nephews who are ring bearers will come down the aisle of Calvary Lutheran Church on an oak sleigh ? one with wheels rather than runners.

After they exchange their vows before Pastor Roger Dykstra, Taylor and Fallon will hold their wedding reception in the Alerus Center. She has finished medical school and is a family medicine resident physician at Altru. He and his family farm near Arvilla, N.D. Her father farms near Larimore, N.D. And the two fathers are longtime friends.

Deborah Hoverson wonders what will happen if her daughter and son-in-law are blessed with a new generation of farmers. What color, she ponders, will be seen tilling their fields? They all agree it doesn?t really matter, but it provides for plenty of good natured banter.

Ask Marilyn

Q. Is there still time to see Christmas in the Park displays in Lincoln Park?

A. Yes, the holiday lights will be glittering tonight and New Year?s Eve. So far this season, there had been 2,600 vehicles through the park. That?s more than ever, according to Roger Johnson of the sponsoring Lions Clubs. He says there have been a few buses, but it?s mostly cars. The cost is $5 for a carload of people, $10 for limos and $20 for buses. There are 48 lighted displays and one synchronized to music at the end of the tour that makes for a grand finale.

Q. what was the best game of the week around here?

A. Trying out new snow blowers on the inch or so of snow that came floating down late in the week.
