New revelations on the Zodiac killer

After 40 years of silence,? a former California Highway Patrol officer says he knows the identity of the alleged Zodiac killer.

Lyndon Lafferty, 79, claims the serial killer is a 91-year-old recovering alcoholic who is living in Fairfield, Calif., outside of Napa Valley. He chooses? not to ID the suspect.

[More photos:? Images from the Zodiac Killer investigations]

The Zodiac killer is named for the symbols used as a signature? in coded messages to the police. The killer claimed to murder 37 around the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1960s and early 1970s, but police only linked the suspect to five murders.

In his book, "The Zodiac Killer Cover-up," Lafferty says the suspect's rage was driven by an adulterous wife. According to Lafferty, the case was covered up by law enforcement agencies and a unnamed judge who Lafferty says was having an affair with the suspect's wife.

"The police departments in general were acting under the authority of the Solano County Sheriff, so they were instructed you do not investigate this man until you have permission from the judge," Lafferty told ABC News. "I am the only person who can testify under oath that these things were absolutely true. My satisfaction is telling my story as it happened."

Lafferty says he met the Zodiac Killer while working as a CHP officer in 1970. Lafferty spent the next 30 years tailing the suspect and gathering evidence with six other investigators.? In 2002, he began compiling his notes for the book.

Rare gorillas captured by hidden camera (+video)

The video offers researchers a very unusual opportunity to view the Cross River gorilla behaving normally.

The rarest gorilla on Earth, the elusive Cross River gorilla, has been caught on film by a hidden camera trap for the first time ever.

Researchers estimate that only about 250 to 300 of the gorillas remain on the planet, and humans have rarely observed these critically-endangered primates?in their natural habitat.

The two-minute footage shows eight of the gorillas making their way through a forest in Cameroon. The video offers a glimpse of classic gorilla behavior, yet also reveals the plight of the threatened apes.

"The footage provides us with our first tantalizing glimpses of Cross River gorillas behaving normally in their environment," said Christopher Jameson, director of the Takamanda Mone Landscape Project. "A person can study these animals for years and never even catch a glimpse of the gorillas, much less see anything like this."

In a movie-worthy moment (at about 1:10 in the video), a massive silverback gorilla suddenly races along the forest path, beating his chest.

Seconds later (at about 1:18), another gorilla lopes across the frame; the animal is missing a hand. The wound appears to be healed, but could have been caused by a hunter's trap, according to a statement from the Wildlife Conservation Society, the group that captured the?rare gorilla video?with one of four camera traps set up in the Kagwene Gorilla Sanctuary.

"Cross River gorillas occur in very low densities across their entire range, so the appearance of a possible snare injury is a reminder that continued law enforcement efforts are needed to prevent further injuries to gorillas in the sanctuary," Liz Macfie, gorilla coordinator for WCS's Species Program, said in a statement.

Although local people don't hunt the gorillas directly, traps set for other forest animals can sometimes injure the apes.

Cross River gorillas are extremely shy, and typically flee at the first sight of humans. They are the rarest of the four gorilla subspecies, and live only in the mountain forests that straddle the border of Cameroon and Nigeria.

5 Ways to Keep Your Investors Investing. | The Producer's Perspective

Believe it or not, one of the greatest complaints I hear from Broadway investors is not that they lost money. ?It?s that they didn?t feel like they were a part of the process. ?They felt used.

It?s not possible to involve your investors in every part of your business, and they shouldn?t even want you to, because frankly your time is best spent working on selling your show. ?However, there are quite a few things you can do to make sure that they know they are more then just a walking/talking checkbook.

We pay a ton of attention to Investor Relations here in my office. ?Why? ?The few, proud people that are Broadway investors are the gasoline in the Broadway engine. ?And treating them with the respect and admiration they deserve is the best way you can ensure you never have a shortage.

Here are five ways you can better your investor relations:

1. ?Communication is the key.

Seems simple, but keeping your investors up to to date on the goings on with your show is essential, especially at the beginning of a run (and especially if your investors are out of town). ?You don?t want your investors finding out any news about your show on Playbill.com. ?And here?s the big tip: ?tell them good news and the bad news. ?If your show is struggling, be honest. ?Investors are smart people and they know the risks of Broadway Investing. ?They just want the truth. ?And, to give you a reverse-Aaron Sorkin, ?They can handle the truth.? ?BONUS TIP: ?Keep your communication going even when you don?t have a show you?re selling.

2. ?Everyone likes free stuff.

T-Shirts, Cast Recordings, Opening Night Gifts, etc. ?Small tangible things that remind people that they are on the ?team? go a long way. ?Broadway investors invest in shows because they love them. ?So a physical reminder of that show, whether it?s a window card, or a notepad, are a great and simple way to give them a sense of ownership and pride in your project.

3. ?Be available.

I?ve had a ton of investors tell me that they can?t get their Producer on the phone, or that he/she won?t respond to their emails. ?WTF? ?In my Broadway investing seminars I always recommend that you ask how available the Producer is before you invest, so you can manage your own expectations . . . but if you?re on the Producing side, and you?ve accepted money from an investor in a risky venture . . . then answer your f?in email and return an f?in phone call. ??Nuff said.

4. ?Be a concierge

We offer our investors a host of other services including setting up ?house seats? for other shows, dinner and hotel recommendations and reservations . . . and I?ve even recommended (or not recommended) that my investors invest in other shows when they ask! ?Treat your investors like your friends, and they?ll do the same. ?Help them, and they?ll help you. ?Relationships are built on reciprocity.

5. ?Make them money.

Easier said then done, of course . . . and what I really mean is ?take care? of their money. ?Tell them your motives for each project. ?Do you believe it can make money? ?Is it an art project? ?Have you worked that budget over to make sure its the leanest it can be without compromising the art? ?Yes, people know that investing in Broadway is risky, but that doesn?t mean they want to just give their money away. ?And making an investor money is a sure-fire way to get them to invest in something else, and recommend to their friends that they invest with you as well. ?The odds of financial success on Broadway are about 1 in 5. ?Show your investors why the odds are better with you.

?

It?s one of your many jobs to keep your investors happy. ?However far you want to take that is up to you. ?But I do believe that all of us have a responsibility to the strong and stalwart folks who support what we do. ?Treat them well.

Our business depends on it.

Serena Williams Rap Song (LISTEN)

The Serena Williams rap song is worth listening to. I think it would really inspire everyone to give the rap business a try, because if what she made passes for a single, then there’s a good chance everyone can do it. Please don’t misunderstand me. As a woman, I am very aware of how amazing her career in tennis has been. She overcame huge racial barriers, and found a successful career in a very snooty sport, known to be popular amongst the wealthy, country-club crowd. She went on to win the biggest tennis contest in the world, which turned her into a role-model for many minority athletes. But if you put all of that aside and listen to this song, it is very difficult to take her seriously. Check the rest of the story out over at TMZ, and watch the video below. I think Ashton Kutcher makes an amazing Steve Jobs – Bumpshack. Man, Jennifer Aniston is really showing signs of being pregnant. I wonder if this is making Brad Pitt jealous… I sort of doubt it – Celebrity Dirty Laundry. The man who murdered Jennifer Hudson’s family was finally found guilty – Diva Artist. ?In the Studio,? Shasta Venture?s Rob Coneybeer Envisions an Internet of Things

Screen shot 2012-05-01 at 12.18.57 PM"In the Studio" continues this week with an mechanical engineer who built and tested materials used in spacecraft, spent years on Sand Hill Road as a venture capitalist focused on semiconductors, software, and networking industries, and out of a desire to build something new in his career while in Silicon Valley, co-founded a new venture capital firm to invest in what he and his partners believe represents the next mass wave of innovation. Rob Coneybeer isn't your run-of-the-mill venture capitalist. You wouldn't know it from first glance, but Coneybeer has a deep technical and operating background, and spent time in industries which provided him a foundation to understand technology platforms across many different sectors over long periods of time. After spending nearly a decade as an investor, Coneybeer didn't want to spend his career in the Valley without getting into the game himself, and thus he and his partners co-founded Shasta Ventures, a venture firm focused on software, mobile, and collaborative consumption and which has made stage-agnostic investments across an impressive array of companies in a short period of time.
